About us

foundhr is Steph and Dom. Two people who somehow ended up spending a large chunk of our working lives in HR, completely unexpectedly, and ended up being pretty bloody good at it.

We’ve had various HR roles and we’ve spent a lot of time dealing with the bits of HR that don’t come with a handy flowchart. The awkward conversations, complex employment issues, redundancy processes where there are laws to follow, spreadsheets to produce, decisions to be made, and human beings with feelings involved. And we got really great at that.

And we realised that there are so many small organisations out there who don’t need a full time HR person. But they DO need someone to call when they’re thinking ‘is this a terrible idea?’, when they have a tricky situation brewing, or when they’ve suddenly realised they should have a policy but don’t have time to write one.

That’s foundhr.

HR support for tiny organisations, startups, charities and founder-led businesses who want someone in their corner without having to employ a whole HR department. We can help with the big complex issues, the little pieces of work, and the stuff that starts with ‘this is probably nothing, but…’

Steph does the writing, the marketing, the words you’re reading now. Dom does the operations, the finance, and the bit that keeps the whole business standing up while Steph is off having opinions about what word would work best in a sentence. We’re both experts in employment law, communication, problem solving, and strategic planning. And our key values align too: that people do their best work when they feel respected and informed, and that whatever hard thing needs to be said, it can always be done kindly.

And we love to work in the same way. You tell us what’s going on, in whatever state it’s actually in, half formed, mid panic, exactly as messy as it is, and we’ll tell you clearly what your options are, so you can make a choice that feels right for you.

We think HR is a sign of good culture, not a legal safety net. Everything we do starts from there.

So if you’ve got a people problem, a question, a policy you’ve been avoiding or just a vague feeling that you could really do with an HR person to talk to, that’s us. Get in touch and let’s talk about what that could look like.
